IAIE-sponsored book Confronting Islamophobia in Educational Practice
now available, Editor: Barry van Driel
Confronting Islamophobia in Educational Practice is now available. The book is published by Trentham Books. Confronting Islamophobia in Educational Practice addresses how the educational community in various nations is coming to grips with increased societal hostility towards Islam as a belief system and towards their Muslim populations. The book examines the issue of “Islamophobia”, or fear of Islam, from a variety of perspectives. Through background and more academic articles the reader learns to better contextualize this phenomenon. The main thrust of the book, however, is on educational practice, and how schools, teachers, are students are coping with the stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination associated with Islamophobia. Confronting Islamophobia in Educational Practice has been written to appeal to both academic readers who would like a more theoretical and historical approach to the issue, and teachers who are looking for methods to address the Islamophobia they encounter in their classrooms.
